Edelweiss offers inspiration for a perfect day's hiking

Feel on holiday at home? Edelweiss shows you how! Since 2016, Switzerland's leading leisure travel airline has been naming its aircraft after the regions in which the edelweiss grows. By the end of the year, 15 aircraft will bear the names of Swiss regions where the edelweiss really grows, from "Corvatsch", "Melchsee-Frutt" and "Belalp" to "Kaiseregg". To symbolise the partnership, a wooden Edelweiss bench will now take pride of place at the best viewpoints in each region.

Rhaetian Railway

The Rhaetian Railway is a leading provider of leisure, commuter and freight transport services. With its unique mountain routes, UNESCO World Heritage status, Glacier Express and Bernina Express lines, it has been providing fascinating rail travel experiences throughout the Swiss canton of Graubünden for more than 125 years. What began in 1889 with the opening of the line from Landquart to Klosters, has become a 384-kilometre network set amidst mountainous terrain. In 1890, the first trains began running to Davos, followed later by services to St. Moritz, Disentis and Scuol. The merger with the Arosa and Bernina railway companies expanded the Rhaetian Railway's network of lines. The opening of the Vereina Tunnel in 1999 marks the most recent extension to the network.

The yearning to be able to see into the distance

The desire to see beyond the limits of the naked eye and into the far distance is as old as humanity itself. The earliest lens systems were built by the astronomers Galileo in Italy and Kepler in Austria. Binocular optics are based to this day on Kepler's invention from 1611. Binoculars made the age-old human dream of achieving a near god-like power of vision a reality.
